Better searching: tips on actually finding your leads and customers
So you’ve recognized that having a single ‘source of truth’ for your whole team to keep leads, customers and every kind of contact, but how to find the particular one you’re looking for again?
The Omny Search tool has long been the fastest way to get to your data but it hasn’t always been the easiest to get to grips with. But no longer! Today we’ve rolled out new unified filters that also serve to teach you to search better.
When you open your contact or account view the default filter has been (and still is) to show the active records that you are the owner of. Now the search bar is filled with the search that provides this filter:
Note that the search bar is no longer empty but contains
active owner:firstname.lastname@example.org, which is how the default filter is translated into a search. Omny sees the space as separating different search terms so we have 2 terms here. Let’s break it down:
- active – This means show me only the records that have an ‘active’ value in the stage field. These terms are all specific to your configuration, but for us it means things like ‘Define solution’ but not ‘On hold’.
- owner:email@example.com – Owner is another field you’ll recognise and the value ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ is what makes Omny show the records I own as opposed to those of colleagues.
Leads to review
Similarly I can use a built in filter to show me the customers I need to review:
Once again you see that selecting this filter has put a term in the search field, just one this time.
- stage:Review – Show records that are at stage ‘Review’
One more example all records updated after a specific date:
Note here that a greater than symbol signifies records updated after the date and also that the date is in written year-month-day
So far, so simple, but what if I actually want to find records belonging to John? There’s no filter entry for that! Or reduce the results to just records of John’s that have been updated recently? Hopefully you recognise by this point that all these search terms can be combined. One last word of advice: remember to only put spaces between search terms.
